1. Looking Ahead to Advent Advent is a mere nine weeks away. (You should be seeing Christmas decorations at your local mall any day now.) We'd like to suggest some resources to help you prepare for this season of preparation. Mission: Christmas is your source for Advent and Christmas programming, including a lesson and Bible study for each week of Advent and the week after Christmas. Additionally, Mission: Christmas includes worship and service-project ideas, a five-page Bible dictionary, and a nineteen-page Christmas play. The programs and ideas in Mission: Christmas will help your youth better understand the traditions, beliefs, and practices that make this time of year so holy. Click here to order Mission: Christmas. Lessons at the Lamppost is a four-session, intensive study of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. You can do this study along with C.S. Lewis's original novel or with the DVD of the blockbuster 2005 film. The four lessons, which relate themes in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe to the Christian journey, correspond to the four Sundays of Advent. This resource, which is available in PDF format, includes a Scripture and lectionary index and several reproducible pages. Click here to order Lessons at the Lamppost. For additional Advent programs, activities, and ideas, check out Destination Christmas. (Click here to order.)
2. LinC: Cheating in the NFL LinC (Living in Christ) is a weekly Sunday school curriculum resource that addresses popular culture and current events. Issues of LinC are available by download or by e-mail subscription.
The National Football League recently reprimanded one of its most successful franchises, the New England Patriots, when the team was caught using video technology to steal opponents' play-calling signals. People often are tempted to cheat or resort to desperate measures to get an advantage over others, but Scripture teaches us to rely on God for success. On October 7, LinC will discuss the dangers of cheating and why we can trust God to provide. Haven’t tried LinC before? Click here to download a free PDF of an issue of LinC entitled In Christ There Is Neither Jew nor Greek, Beauty nor Geek. Click here for more information or to purchase LinC.

Veracity is a twelve-volume series that youth ministers and Sunday school teachers can use to spark discussion and teach teenagers important lessons about the Christian faith. Each DVD volume features five short films that can be used in conjunction with Claim the Life (a comprehensive Sunday school and spiritual-formation program), to supplement other curriculum resources, or as a discussion starter for youth group meetings and retreats.
5. Now on iLeadYouth.comGet Out of the Basement Youth ministry is about being with youth, right? Although some youth leaders would say yes, this job description isn’t entirely accurate. Leading youth is as much about building relationships with other church members as it is about building relationships with teens. Why should you reach out to more people when your job is arguably the most time-intensive ministry in the church? While building more relationships will consume more of your time, it will open the door to new ways of ministering to youth. By Mike Ratliff. Click here to read more.
